Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes. EECP is FDA-cleared for chronic stable angina, unstable angina, acute myocardial infarction, cardiogenic shock, and heart failure. Providers also use it off-label for a wide range of other conditions based on clinical evidence.

Medicare covers EECP for patients with chronic stable angina who meet specific criteria — typically Class III–IV angina refractory to medical therapy. Most major commercial insurers also cover it. Coverage for heart failure and off-label indications varies by insurer.

The standard course is 35 one-hour sessions, typically scheduled 5 days per week over 7 weeks. Some travel programs offer 2 sessions per day, allowing you to complete the full course in as few as 18 days.

No. EECP is non-invasive and generally well-tolerated. Most people describe the sensation as a firm squeezing of the legs in sync with their heartbeat. There are no needles, no surgery, and no recovery time.

EECP is FDA-cleared and Medicare-covered, yet it remains largely unknown. Many cardiologists are unfamiliar with it, and there is little financial incentive for hospitals to promote a non-surgical outpatient therapy. This directory was built specifically to change that.

Beyond its FDA-cleared cardiac indications, EECP is being used for diabetic neuropathy, erectile dysfunction, Long COVID, Parkinson's disease, dementia and cognitive decline, PAD, fibromyalgia, tinnitus, retinopathy, chronic kidney disease, and general anti-aging and longevity protocols.

Yes. Home-based and mobile EECP options exist, though they are less common than clinic-based treatment. Some providers offer portable units or make house calls. If there is no provider in your area, you can also request a Pop-Up Clinic — a traveling EECP program that comes to your region when enough interest is registered. See our Mobile EECP and Pop-Up Clinics pages for current options.
