What to Ask Your EECP Provider

Before committing to a provider or beginning treatment, use these questions to evaluate the quality and appropriateness of the program. A good provider will welcome all of them.

1

What conditions do you treat with EECP?

Reveals indication breadth — Grade A providers treat cardiac and non-cardiac conditions.

2

Do you require a cardiac referral, or can I self-refer?

Self-referral policies vary widely and affect access for patients without a cardiologist.

3

What EECP equipment do you use?

Ask for the brand and model. Vasomedical and Entorian are the leading clinical systems.

4

How many sessions do you recommend, and at what frequency?

The standard protocol is 35 sessions over 7 weeks. Shorter courses may be less effective.

5

Do you monitor my heart during treatment?

ECG monitoring is standard. Lack of monitoring is a red flag.

6

What results have your patients seen?

Ask for patient outcomes, not just testimonials — reduced angina, improved exercise tolerance, etc.

7

Will you coordinate with my cardiologist?

Good providers communicate with your existing care team and share treatment summaries.

8

Do you accept Medicare or my insurance?

Medicare covers EECP for stable angina (ICD-10 I20.8). Ask about billing codes used.

9

What happens if I miss a session?

Flexibility and make-up session policies matter for patients with demanding schedules.

10

Is there a follow-up protocol after I complete treatment?

Grade A providers track outcomes and offer maintenance or booster sessions.
